I take my work very seriously and have always felt like I had to work harder than those around me because I’m very transparent about the fact that I don’t come from a wealthy family and never had connections to get me the jobs or the looks to wear, etc.

What was your first internship and how did you get started in the industry?

My first fashion internship was actually at teen vogue. One of my professors saw a post online about a fashion closet position and I was hooked from the moment I got there! I was only organizing and steaming clothes but I loved seeing the possibilities of what fashion could do.

It’s been a big year for you – 30 under 30, the youngest EIC of a Condé Nast publication, working with activist Greta Thunberg, Teen Vogue summit, countless panels – how do you balance it all?

Honestly by just trying to be grateful as much as I can. I take my work very seriously and have always felt like I had to work harder than those around me because I’m very transparent about the fact that I don’t come from a wealthy family and never had connections to get me the jobs or the looks to wear, etc. Despite that, I try not to take myself too seriously and have fun with it.

How do you stay up-to-date with fashion and current events?

I read everything and in general I feel like i’ve always tried to keep up the curiosity and wonder because I don’t know everything or every perspective.

Your husband is also in the industry, do you think it is beneficial to overlap in both of your career paths or do you keep it separate? Is it a balance?

He’s not in fashion but he is in photography and fine arts which I really love because we speak the same language and I can bounce creative ideas off of him. Our worlds are very different and he’s always the person that grounds me back into real life. It’s always a balancing act but I think it works for us because both of our careers are important to us, and we both understand the climb.

What’s your workout routine?

I love high intensity workouts because they’re not boring and still challenging! I try to do those three times a week, sprinkled in with some pilates or just going to gym quickly if I’m rushing.

Favorite SOS outfit to wear to the office?

I’ve collected a good assortment of dresses that are my go-to pieces because I’m always in meetings with executives or designers. I don’t ever want to look too polished but the goal is to look chic with some color!

Do you plan your outfits in advance?

Fashion months, yes. For everyday work, no.

What’s your thought process in putting an outfit together?

I do a PDF which I feel like it’s really embarrassing but that’s what I do. I’m running a brand and I have too much on my mind. Picking out things that go together in advance helps me pack smartly. Making a PDF with planned outfits makes it easier when I go overseas. That way I know what I have and what I can wear.
