Pound & Pie

“The ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

The warmth of a kitchen filled with the conversation of friends and the heavy scent of home-baked food is irreplaceable. Having to make this home of my own wherever I go, it is rare to experience that feeling. On occasion, I find it in cafes.

One gloomy Sunday morning, my friend and model from Kazakhstan Dana invited me to hang out with her at the cafe where she had been working part-time. To my pleasant surprise, the cafe consisted entirely of one small room, the shining, espresso machine perched on a side table, and whimsical posters and photos hung up on the neat walls. Freshly baked breads and tarts were lined up haphazardly on china plates, displayed to be seen easily through the outside window.

The small room is full of warm sound that comes out of a single, small speaker. I discovered plenty of good songs, distracted by the music while Dana and I spent a happy morning dreaming together.

It’s located on a side street around Sinsa, very quiet in the mornings. It’s easy to pass it by, so keep an eye out for the small sign that heralds “Pound & Pie.”
