We invite you to join us in getting to know the talented first cohort over the next few weeks.

Introducing the WGSN Future Makers: Martha Pena

We spoke with Martha, a fashion teacher with a love of embroidery. Martha dreams of designing a classic cocktail or avant-garde women’s dress collection.

Firstly, how would you describe your design style, and what inspires it?

My designs are classic and feminine. I’m inspired by avant-garde design and use soft and clean lines. I’m often inspired by people watching, as well as looking at art.

Is there a particular project you’re especially proud of?

I worked on a project where I created an avant-garde collection that was inspired by interiors. For me, the project was something new, whilst being fun and challenging. These new opportunities, challenges and ideas really drive me.

Are there any current designers who you’re inspired by?

Fashion design Carolina Herrera is a big inspiration to me. She keeps her fashion forward whilst being collections consistent and classic.

Have you always been interested in fashion?

My interest in fashion began in college when I was studying photography. I always loved clothing and was inspired by fashion magazines and retail windows.

Martha is mentored by Nick Paget, based in London, UK. Nick is our Senior Menswear Strategist at WGSN and provides creative solutions across market levels. Nick loves karaoke and is chairperson of the Brighton & Hove Actually Gay Men’s Chorus
