My Hair Routine Inspired By My Grandma

Thank you Pantene for sponsoring this blog post!

For most people, they learn their love of skincare or haircare from their moms but for me it’s always been my grandma, aka, halmunee. My grandma, even at the age of 91, practices her skincare and haircare routine religiously, still takes supplements every single day and has been making her morning smoothie for as long as I could remember.

Last year she was hospitalized for pneumonia and even then, she was brushing her hair doing her scalp massage, and wouldn’t go a day without doing her skincare routine. At 91, she still goes out to go get her hair permed regularly and colors her own hair every 2 weeks. In South Korea, when a woman reaches a certain age, they tend to ditch their long hair and opt for a perm and my grandma is no exception. She said she cut her hair short and permed it because as she got older, her hair had thinned out and the curl gave her hair volume. Whenever my sister and I visit our grandma in Korea, we know not to go empty handed and we always bring her hair products that repair damage especially because her main concern is thinning hair from aging and the constant hair treatment she’s been getting over the years. As I’ve been using Pantene, I’m excited to bring her the Fortifying Damage Repair with Castor Oil Shampoo and Conditioner and from the Nutrients Blend Collection next time I visit her in South Korea.

Although I don’t get my hair treated as often as my grandma does, because I use a lot of hair tools and have been dying my hair for many years, my biggest hair concern is damage so when I’m looking for shampoo and conditioner, I tend to look for damage repair products. The Pantene Fortifying Damage Repair shampoo and conditioner is made with Vitamin E-rich castor oil which helps with hair growth and hair loss, and is made without sulfate, parabens, dyes or mineral oil. I wash my hair 2-3 times a week so when I’m washing my hair with the Fortifying Damage Repair Shampoo and Condtioner, it’s a treat for me. I mean, I feel like a whole new woman after I wash my hair!

When I’m washing my hair, I’ll massage my scalp just like my grandma does. My grandma massages her hair every single day which became a ritual for me as well. Her reason is that a diligent scalp massage will stimulate blood flow and encourage hair growth. She does this not only when she’s washing her hair but also every night when she’s watching her night news. The fortifying shampoo is designed to help strengthen, protect and repair damaged, overworked hair and is also safe for color-treated hair like mine so using both the shampoo and conditioner plus my regular haircuts keeps my hair super healthy.

Funny fact, in middle school and high school, I over plucked my eyebrows so to grow my brows out naturally, I started using castor oil on my brows. It’s also good for your lashes too! You can find Fortifying Damage Repair with Castor Oil shampoo and conditioner here.
