Team SOS’ Guide to San Francisco

Last weekend, team SOS took a short trip to Northern California and spent 48 hours in the charming city of San Francisco. The city has a little bit of everything – hills, the Pacific ocean, skyscrapers and great food – all of the things we love within a destination. Not to mention, it’s only an hour flight away from LA. If you’re in need of a little weekend getaway this guide is for you!

The Golden Gate Park

We loved visiting the Golden Gate Park, it’s easily accessible and less crowded than the Palace of Fine Arts. It’s also free to enter and enjoy the park. We suggest visiting the Japanese Tea Garden and exploring different forms of fine art at the De Young Museum. If you’re into science and natural history, the California Academy of Sciences is also within the park.

Jackson Square

Tired of shopping at Union Street? Take a short trek to Jackson square! We love this little mecca of clothing and art stores. Here, you’ll find some of our favorite stores: Aesop, APC and Isabel Marant.

Mission District

The Mission District is the perfect destination for food, drinks, interior and apothecary stores. There’s so much to see and eat so we spent most of our Saturday here! We love the mix of emerging brands and thrift stores as well as the eco-friendly brands which also are opening retail stores along Valencia St.

Alamo Square Park

Grab a pastry from Tartine Bakery or ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery and head to the Alamo Square Park for a lovely view of the Painted Ladies. We loved hanging out in the beautiful park on a crisp, clear day and meeting locals with their adorable pups.

Breadbelly

This is without a doubt our favorite breakfast spot. The Asian-American bakery offers a good selection of sweet and savory pastries. Check out their weekly specials for some seasonal offerings. We especially loved their Kaya Toast (milk bread with coconut-pandan jam – yum!) and the Kare Pan that was filled with spiced chicken curry.

Mama’s on Washington Square

Located within the charming streets of North Beach, this classic all-day breakfast spot is definitely worth the long wait. Everything is made to order and we love their classic omelets and Eggs Benedict. After the meal, you can walk off the food with a stroll to the scenic Italian neighborhood next door.

Stonemill Matcha

This darling cafe along Valencia serves the best matcha drinks and dishes in the city. We loved their sparkling matcha drink with passion fruit and the Matchazuke – a classic chazuke dish with a matcha twist. The salmon was perfectly cooked and impeccable, it’ll melt in your mouth! Come for the great food and drinks, and stay for the minimalist interiors.

Barzotto

We are self-proclaimed pasta girls and are always on the lookout for the best pasta of the best. After going through different reviews, we tried this quaint spot in the Mission District. We fell in love with the whole vibe of the restaurant – both casual and charming. The pasta and wine were reasonably priced under $17 and we highly recommend the Snail Shells and Radiators pasta.. We’ll definitely come back here!
